I am Sarah Mitchell and welcome to my little corner of the internet, the place that I share my passion for all things fantasy. I've created this website to share my experiences and to chronicle my adventures.
If you are searching for some guidance and help, in regard to learning Dungeons and Dragons, as well as other RPGs, you're in the right place.
As of August 2024, I am president of the Toowoomba Dungeons and Dragons club where we build community, introducing people to the game, create a safe creative space and teach those interested in how to run their own games.
Here you can comfortably learn the basics, build your knowledge and confidence, get inspired by fellow gamers and learn the tips and techniques that can make role play games so much fun.
Alternatively, if you're seeking a multi-medium artist who is actively involved in their local community and open about their process and practice, my site is for you.
Check out the blog to discover my process of creation which covers many different mediums including cosplay, ceramics, graphic design, sculpture and world building.
My intro to D&D
My adventure into the world of D&D started in 2019. I, like many started playing this game during high school with a group of friends. We played at my house with a few dice, paper, pencils and a very skewed understanding of the game rules. We played a homebrew game (custom) in my friend's world.
When I moved to the Gold Coast my brother and I joined a teen D&D game at Good Games which taught me the rules and introduced me to a new group of friends.
I started DMing or being a Dungeon Master in 2021. my party were an extra-large group of homeschool teens. The average party has 2-4 players but, in my group, I had between 7-10 players. The exact number changed over time as some left and joined.
The first game I ran was lost mine of Phandelver, which is the premade campaign from the D&D Starter Kit. After this I ran a homebrew version of Icewind Dale Rime of the Frost Maiden.
This campaign was fun but with so many players progress was super slow, we had only made it a little way into part 2 when I TPKed (total party kill) the group with the second deadly encounter a frost giant and mammoth.
Toowoomba Dungeons and Dragons Club
One of the reasons I chose to study at UniSQ (USQ) in 2022 was because it had a D&D club. They were super welcoming and fun, and I was quickly invited to a game.
The D&D club runs a bunch of events from learn-to-play nights to DM training and mini painting.
In my second year at uni (2023) I was invited onto the club's executive team as the Graphic Designer and as of August 2024 I was voted in as club President.
I am a young, female Toowoomba-based artist and art student working primarily in the mediums of digital art, ceramics and sculpture but I create art in all mediums. My art is primarily inspired by dinosaurs/ pre-historic creatures and the adventures from Dungeons and Dragons. I take great pride in contributing to a narrative that both pays homage to the power of storytelling and inspires an innate curiosity of dinosaurs. My work is a celebration of captivating worlds, both those made for mystical adventures and those lost to time.
I specifically like to create work about my special interest which tend to be primarily masculine interests such as TTRPGs and dinosaurs, as such I intend to create a space where young girls can see cute art of their interests.
I enrolled in UniSQ's Bachelor of Visual Arts, Studio Practice in semester 2 of 2022.
In first year, my favourite class was sculpture, but I found each medium interesting as I like to create many different types of art. Most of my art at uni has been inspired by either my adventures in Dungeons and Dragons or dinosaurs.
In second year, we have to choose two art majors to specialise in before going down to one in third year. My second-year mediums were sculpture and ceramics and now that I have finished year two, I will be going into ceramics for third year with a focus on wheel throwing and slip casts.
In my 2D art and ceramics I like to create either stylised or hyper-realistic depictions, allowing viewers to connect intimately with these majestic beings that walked the Earth eons ago.
At the core of my artistic exploration lies an insatiable fascination with dinosaurs.
my Dinosaur art is often cute and colourful as I believe it is essential to challenge gender stereotypes and create a space where girls feel welcome to explore and engage with the fascinating world of dinosaurs. My art seeks to break down barriers and inspire girls to embark on their own thrilling journeys of scientific discovery.
In parallel to the scientific world of palaeontology, my creativity spreads to the realms of Dungeons and Dragons, where heroes rise, and mythical stories unfold.
All of my sculptural art and a lot of my digital, ceramics and traditional art is inspirited by my adventures in dungeons and dragons.
My works can represent, my characters, the adventures they have been on and fantasy creatures.
My current favourite one is my small sculpture of a teacup mimic.
As of the start of August I am one of the artists at The Chapel Gallery. This has been a great opportunity to make connecting in Toowoomba's art community and start to establish myself as a local artist.
Most of my works available at the Chapel Gallery are those I created at uni including some ceramic works and a moth painting.
I am also a beginner cosplayer who currently makes all their cosplays by hand. I mainly cosplay my own Dungeons and Dragons characters in my games and for D&D club events and cosplay meetups.
